Big Easter Swell at Compton Bay, Isle of Wight by Jason Swain. Yesterday i promised some photos without Alan Reed in them, so here’s a little update with part two of my photo blog from yesterdays ‘Big Easter’ swell at Compton (but if you look carefully he’s still managed to sneak in a few 🙂
BTW, re the title, I saw Kimmi Piggot post on Facebook that the visiting Hawaiian photographer Wayne Levin (who’s exhibition is on now at Dimbola galleries in Freshwater Bay) had officially dubbed the swell as’Big Easter’ so thats good enough for me!
Shot with the Sigma 50-500mm telephoto lens on the Canon 6d camera body. I’ve lost the x1.6 magnification that i used to get using the lens with the 7D body, but the quality from the 6d is stunning and there’s still enough reach to catch people out back on a decent sized wave at Compton, and I quite like showing a bit more of the wave in most of these rather than getting too close to the action anyway.
Featured surfers include…. Scott Gardener, Matt Harwood, Alan Reed (again), Nick Whittle, Ben (whats yours second name?) and unknown rider and possibly a Joe Truman but i’m not sure of that one.

With a bit of luck I might have a part three (wipe-outs) and part four (panoramas and vertoramas) to follow in next few days.
