Sunset Surfer

Sunset Surfer, originally uploaded by s0ulsurfing. little bit of texture fun with flypapers adds a bit of extra warmth to a summery surfing scene from Watergate Bay in Cornwall. More Vertoramas to come this week as promised, but it is so cold and wet and grey and miserable outside today that i had to dish [...]

I should have been there yesterday.

I should have been there yesterday.

Returning to a familiar theme for this blog, and probably for most surfers too, the old ‘you should have been here yesterday’ routine. Over the last 20 years I’ve built my life next to the sea and the West Wight in particular, with the simple (and now not so secret) aim of leading a quiet [...]

The morning after the night before…

The morning after the night before…

Sitting here today, on a miserable grey December day, looking out the window at howling on-shores blowing out any chance of getting any decent waves, and i’m looking back over a few pics from a surf session that i voluntarily missed out on a few weeks back. I wasn’t too busy, i didn’t have to be somewhere [...]

Stunning short surf movie!

Stunning short surf movie!

It’s not very often i’ll post a video from one of the big brands, but this rip-curl video really is worth watching for the pioneering film techniques alone. It looks like a fairly standard lifestyle surf vid until about 30 seconds in when things start getting really funky.

November Wipeouts

November Wipeouts

Following on from yesterdays post, where the camera lied a bit and made it all look very good with beautiful backlit waves and no close-outs or drop-ins, here’s the other side of the coin and a few wipeouts / bailouts and even one in the pouring rain!

Surf photography with the Sigma 50-500mm

Surf photography with the Sigma 50-500mm

Finally had a chance to shoot some surfing at Freshwater Bay again and test out the Sigma 50-500mm. I got the lens with surfing in mind almost a year ago a now and have barely had a chance to catch any waves with it till the last few days! The bay looked pretty bumpy and [...]

Surfing Compton Bay, 18th Jan 2011

every now and again I managed to grab a fast little section and escape the close-outs so no complaints about a surf session in the sun with only two other people out!

I should have been here yesterday.

I should have been here yesterday.

Seems like every week since that first september swell arrived here on the isle of wight that we’ve been blessed with decent waves, and I think i’ve been spoilt this autumn by an unusually high number of days with good surfing conditions.

The perfect wave!

The perfect wave!

OK, maybe its not THE perfect wave :) but its definitely a really nice one coming through at Godrevy, Cornwall.

Surf kit review: Wax buddy.

my boards are in need of a bit of attention, i’ve got a few dings to fix up, and both could do with a fresh coat of wax as the old stuff is half inch think and the colour of an old dog turd.

Salt water baptism. A cure for the common cold!

Salt water baptism. A cure for the common cold!

Two hours of getting pounded in closing out UK beach-break (still wearing a summer wetsuit in October) followed by a large hot-toddy!
