Compton Fields Beach Clean, Isle of Wight
A quick photo-blog about the beach clean that took place earlier today at Compton Fields on the Isle of Wight. The bad news is the sheer amount of crap, the good news is that people are prepared to do something about it, so well done to all those that turned up on a cold and [...]

The show takes place at Dimbola Museum & Galleries in Freshwater Bay, Isle of Wight, starting [...]
The swell that kept on coming…
So, its five days and counting now that this spring swell has hung around, and thats pretty good going for the south coast, especially accompanied by offshore winds. Only had time for a really quick surf at lunchtime, and no photos either, but i did get back in the evening to shoot a few SUP’s [...]
I was there yesterday!! an overdue surf blog.
Following up on the theme of my last surf blog, where i’d missed out on the good swell at Freshwater Bay because i had to stay in and have my broadband line fixed. This time i’m happy to write about the waves I did get on a glorious days surfing at Compton Bay, on the [...]
I should have been there yesterday (The story of Isle of Wight surfing)
Isle of Wight Surfing. Returning to a familiar theme for this blog, and probably for most people who ever done a bit of Isle of Wight surfing too, the old ‘you should have been here yesterday’ routine. Over the last 20 years I’ve built my life next to the sea and the West Wight in [...]
The morning after the night before…
Sitting here today, on a miserable grey December day, looking out the window at howling on-shores blowing out any chance of getting any decent waves, and i’m looking back over a few pics from a surf session that i voluntarily missed out on a few weeks back. I wasn’t too busy, i didn’t have to be somewhere [...]
When i’m not surfing…
When I’m not surfing, i’m taking pictures, here’s a slideshow from a recent event i covered at the House of Commons for the good people at EcoIsland, and if you’re living and surfing on the Isle of Wight, you might find it interesting to pop over to the eco-island website and take a look at what the [...]
November Wipeouts
Following on from yesterdays post, where the camera lied a bit and made it all look very good with beautiful backlit waves and no close-outs or drop-ins, here’s the other side of the coin and a few wipeouts / bailouts and even one in the pouring rain!
UK Surf photography with the Sigma 50-500mm
UK Surf photography So i’ve finally had a chance to get out and shoot some surfing at Freshwater Bay on the Isle of Wight again. Finally a chance to test out the Sigma 50-500mm telephoto lens in action. I got the lens with UK Surf photography in mind almost a year ago now, and I have [...]
Surf kit review: Wax buddy.
my boards are in need of a bit of attention, i’ve got a few dings to fix up, and both could do with a fresh coat of wax as the old stuff is half inch think and the colour of an old dog turd.
Archive surfing #1
I found a few shots that got overlooked, neglected, or fell down the back of the sofa
Surfing Compton Bay, 18th Jan 2011
every now and again I managed to grab a fast little section and escape the close-outs so no complaints about a surf session in the sun with only two other people out!
First Surf of 2011. Nice swell at Compton Bay.
…one of those choice set waves that made the whole thing worthwhile.
Where there’s muck there’s brass. Return to paradise lost
This is not a rant, not even really a moan, it’s just a few rambling observations on life on earth, in the context of trying to make a living as a photographer and being a surfer on this planet
I should have been here yesterday.
Seems like every week since that first september swell arrived here on the isle of wight that we’ve been blessed with decent waves, and I think i’ve been spoilt this autumn by an unusually high number of days with good surfing conditions.
Frost Bite Surf Comp, Compton Bay, Isle of Wight.
This Saturday sees the start of the IOW Surf Club Frost Bite Series!
Fourth & final part of September Swells, an Isle of Wight Photo Blog.

IOW September Swells Photo Blog Part two.
here’s another batch of shots from Thursday 2nd, shot straight into the evening sun again so there’s a few more mono edits trying to make the most of the back-light and silhouettes.
September Swells Photo Blog Part one.
It’s the first solid swell since i got the Canon 7d, so as well as enjoying some proper waves myself, i made sure to hang around and take lots of photos too.
It’s all over now. Surfing photo blog.
That’s it now, the last batch of surf photos from the last big day, maybe we’ll get another good swell now that they are all gone.
